Hartselle Christmas Parade
By By Staff reports
Near-freezing temperatures and a brisk north breeze probably kept some people from attending the Hartselle Christmas Parade on Thursday night but it didn’t prevent the many who came from enjoying themselves.
Crowds lined the sidewalks in the Central Business District and watched with interest and emotion for 35 minutes as parade units passed. The most anticipated unit was Santa Claus. He arrived at the end of the parade riding atop the city’s No. 1 fire engine. Assisting him were four helpers who distributed candy to the kids. Other parade units included about15 amateur floats, marching bands from Hartselle High and Junior High, Boy and Girl Scouts, emergency response vehicles and antique cars and tractors.
Floats judged first, second and third received cash prizes of $250, $150 and $100. respectively. The first place winner was entered by Crestline Elementary School’s Cub Scout Pack 92. Don Palmer’s “Santa’s Workshop” came in second and the “Special Needs Assessment” (SNAP) float won third place.
