Surprise you child with a visit from Santa himself. Santa will be visiting children in the Hartselle area two weeks prior to Christmas. Parents, if you would like to schedule a visit to your house, stop by the Civic Center no later than Dec. 12 to make arrangements. Santa will drop by to see if your child is being naughty or nice. He will also bring your child a momento to recall the visit. Space is limited so register early. The fee is $20 per child in the household and $5 for each additional child in the same household.
Santa’s Village will be at Early Works Museum through Dec. 23 from 5-9 p.m. each night. Admission is charged.
Burritt Mansion Christmas Forest will be at Burritt on the Mountain through Dec. 31 Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sundays noon – 4 p.m.
Huntsville Botanical Garden will host Galaxy of Lights Drive through Dec. 31 from 5:30-9 p.m. nightly. Extended hours until 10 p.m. Dec. 15-24. Admission is charged.
Renaissance Theatre will present “Miracle on 34th Street” Dec. 11, 12, 13 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $14. For information, call 536-3117.
Point Mallard Ice Complex will host a Christmas Skating Camp Dec. 22, 23, 29, 30 and Jan. 5 and 6 from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. The camp includes on and off ice instruction, supervised public session and food and drinks. Dec. 12-14
The Backstage Theatre Company will present “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students, children and seniors. Twickenham Historic Preservation District Association presents “The Spirit of Christmas Past” home tour Dec. 13 from 5-9 p.m. on McClung Ave. in Huntsville. Homes will feature traditional decorations, luminaries, caroling, chimes, music and live entertainment. Advance home tour tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for children 12 and younger. In celebration of its 175th birthday, the public is invited to attend the Christmas Open House at the 1833 Old State Bank, Alabama’s oldest surviving bank, noon – 8 p.m. Dec. 13. A new, signed limited edition print of the Old Bank is now available to commemorate the 175th birthday of this Alabama landmark. Created by Decatur artist Julianne Lowman, the 16 inch by 20 inch print retails for $35. The artist will be on site from 1-4 p.m. to meet the public and to hand sign prints. (Signed prints will still be available at other times during the event and throughout the holiday season.) First United Methodist Church in Huntsville will host its 200th year Luminary Night Celebration Dec. 13 from 4-6 p.m.
Kick off the holidays with Santa and Chuck E. Cheese Dec. 13 at 8 a.m. at the Chuck E. Cheese in Decatur Mall. The breakfast event will benefit the American Red Cross Morgan-Lawrence chapter. Each child will receive a free gift and join Santa in a parade to Santa Land after breakfast. Limited tickets will be available for $10 per child. Dec. 14
Celebrate the holiday season at a Candy Cane Hunt Dec. 14. Bring a basket or a sack for your candy and come to Pavilion 4 at Sparkman Park Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. Children will hunt by age groups (ages 3 and under, 4-5, and 6-8) and prizes will be given to those who find the specially marked candy canes. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served. There is no fee but registration is required by Dec. 12.
The North Alabama Railroad Museum will host a Santa Train Dec. 13 at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. and 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Admission is charged.
Dec. 14-16
Christmas at the Creek will be Dec. 14-16 at 6 p.m. There will be dinner and Christmas dinner featuring smoked turkey breast with white sauce, mashed potato, cranberry sauce, green beans, rolls and dessert. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for age 10 and younger and free for ages 3 and younger.
