Holmes sparks Lady Tigers' road win

MUSCLE SHOALS - With its best shooting performance of the season, Hartselle powered to a 61-54 victory over Muscle Shoals Friday in an area game.
The Lady Tigers’ Alex Holmes picked up a double-double after scoring 22 points with her 19-rebound effort.
Holmes was 8-of-15 from the field in the win.
Hartselle improved to 4-4 overall, while Muscle Shoals fell to 3-7 with the loss.
Katie Young finished with 16 points after hitting six of her 10 free throw attempts.
Hartselle made 56 percent of its shots from the field in the first half on the way to a commanding 33-25 advantage at the half.
Taylor White added 14 points for Hartselle.
Muscle Shoals made a charge in the second half, trimming six points off Hartselle’s lead. But the Lady Trojans were never able to get the lead.
Muscle Shoals’ Jasmine Hammon finished with a game-high 26 points for the Lady Trojans.
Boys’ game
Muscle Shoals 59, Hartselle 36
In a rematch of last year’s sub-regional game, Muscle Shoals’ Ralston Turner scored a team-high 16 points to lead the Trojans to the win in the area matchup .
Turner hit six of his 11 shots in the win.
Hartselle struggled offensively, scoring just two points in the first quarter. The Tigers trailed 7-0 before scoring late in the quarter.
Marquez Jones scored seven points for the Tigers, while Manquez Jones finished with five points and six assists.
Hartselle also got five points from Tres Austin and Sam Fleischman.
Muscle Shoals improved to 3-3 overall. Hartselle dropped to 7-3.
