Falkville gets split at Speake

SPEAKE - Falkville tried its best to stop Speake post player Kylie Black.
Black, a Samford signee, finished with 24 points and 22 rebounds as the Lady Cats rallied to beat Falkville at home Monday.
Speake scored nine straight points to go in front before Falkville’s Megan Hill hit a free throw to tie the game at 22-22 at the half.
Speake went up by four points in the third quarter, but Falkville closed the gap and the game went to the final quarter tied at 31-31.
Fulks scored on a layup to give Speake a 47-37 advantage midway through the fourth quarter.
Sidney Moore hit one of two free throws with 16 seconds left to trim the Speake lead to 50-46.
The Lady Blue Devils got to within three points of Speake with 11 seconds left.
Katie Annerton led the Lady Devils with 15 points. She hit nine of 10 free throws. Sarah Goodman added nine points, while Celese Sharbutt finished with eight points.
Boys’ game
Falkville 55, Speake 37
Speake struggled against Falkville’s patient zone defense Monday night, finishing with a season-low 37 points in a loss to the Blue Devils.
Jake Randolph scored a game-high 30 points and added seven steals in the win.
Trevor Mayer finished with 10 points. Jace Wilemon had nine rebounds for the Blue Devils.
Speake’s K.C. Orr had 19 points.
