Funeral for J.D. Sparks, 73, of Valhermoso Springs was Wednesday, Dec. 31, at 1:00 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ralph Snowden officiating.
Burial was in Valhermoso Springs Cemetery with firefighter honors.
Mr. Sparks died Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born March 2, 1935, in Lawrence County to Jesse Sparks and Bertha McDougle Sparks. He served for 22 years in the Talucah Volunteer Fire Department as either assistant chief or chief. He loved bluegrass music and was an accomplished musician and singer. He was a dedicated family man, avid outdoorsman who loved to deer hunt and fish and a supporter of the Huntsville Rescue Mission. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Nettie Sue Sparks of Valhermoso Springs; three sons, Gilbert Sparks of Athens, Jeffery Sparks of Danville and Mike Moore of Priceville; two daughters, Rita Clemons of Falkville and Debbie Goodner of Valhermoso Springs; a brother, Dwight Sparks of Moulton, two sisters, Ruby Black and Ozell Sparks, both of Moulton; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Van Giest, John Stinson, Charles Black, Joel Byers, James Bradford and Stan Nelson.
