Funeral for Melvin O. Curnel, 61, of Decatur was Saturday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robbie Stofel officiating.
Burial was in Burningtree Memorial Gardens with military honors.
Mr. Curnel died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Dec. 26, 1946, in Lola, Ky. to C.L. Curnel and Margaret Black Curnel. He grew up in Hartselle and was a graduate of Morgan County High School. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and was employed by Mutual Savings Life Insurance Co. He was an avid golfer and Alabama fan. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Danny; and a sister, Julie.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Curnel of Decatur; two sons, Brandon Curnel and wife Paula of Huntsville and Brian Curnel and wife Linda of Texas; three brothers, Alton Curnel of Oklahoma, Roger Curnel and wife Linda of Texas and Stanley Curnel and wife Susan of Hartselle; a sister, Patty Curnel of Texas; three grandchildren; and the light of his life, granddaughter Whitney Bama Curnel.
Pallbearers were Mitchell Prater, Lonnie Burns, David Curnel, Charlie Goodwin, Jim Neighbors, Brent Morgan and Glenn McDaniel.
