Funeral for Ona Thompson Rhodes, 90, of Hartselle was Monday, Dec. 29, at 1 p.m. at Forrest Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harold Thompson officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Hartselle City Cemetery,
Mrs. Rhodes died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008. She was born July 16, 1918, in Morgan County to William Ernest Vest Sr. and Ada Wallace Vest.
She was a member of Forrest Chapel United Methodist Church and was well known for making fried pies and homemade vegetable soup. She was also known for her butter churning demonstrations, which she gave for school children as well at the Morgan County Fair.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Earl Thompson and Archie Rhodes; her sons-in-law, Terry Stewart and Billy Joe Parker; six brothers, Walter, Emmitt, Oscar “Doc”, Tilmon, Roy and W.E. “Dub” Vest; and a sister, Emma Lindsey.
She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Nell Parker and Mary Edith Stewart, both of Hartselle; two sisters, Mary Grace Asherbranner of Danville and Mildred Blackwood of Hartselle; three granddaughters, Doris Thrasher and friend David Hogan, Jodie McCormick and husband Kenny and Janet Lewis and husband Bob; five great-grandchildren, Justin Linderman, Jonathan Thrasher, Jake Linderman, Cody McCormick and Dallas Thrasher; and a great-great-grandson, Jasper Linderman.
Pallbearers were Melvin Elliott Dobbs, Ralph Nelson, Ray Crabtree, Alton Armistead, Jimmy Asherbranner and Philip Gurley.
Great-grandchildren were honorary pallbearers.
