State’s jobless rate on the increase

Alabama’s unemployment rate for November was 6.1 percent. This represents an increase from October’s revised rate of 5.5 percent and up from the November 2007 rate of 3.7percent. It remains below the national rate of 6.7 percent.
The month’s unemployment rate represents an increase of 10,983 additional unemployed persons. The manufacturing sector experienced the largest decrease in jobs, while the trade, transportation and utilities sector experienced the largest increase.
The counties with the lowest unemployment rates were Shelby, Madison and Tuscaloosa. The counties with the highest unemployment rates were Chambers, Wilcox and Bullock.
