ADECA offers free booklet

With holiday decorations coming down and the new year at hand, now is a good time to make a few resolutions about home improvement projects.
The Energy Division of the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is offering a free guide to help homeowners complete projects that increase their home’s energy efficiency and save money on utility bills. The book, called “Home Energy Projects: An Energy Conservation Guide for Do-it-Yourselfers,” features step-by-step instructions for many energy improvements around the house. Many of the projects can be completed by homeowners, but some require professional help.
Other improvement projects in the book include sealing leaks and cracks around doors and windows and adding extra insulation in the attic, walls and floors. Heat flows naturally from a warmer to a cooler place, so in winter warm air leaks out and in summer hot air leaks in. Insulation provides effective resistance to heat flowing in and out of your home.
