Hawks fall to Speake, beat Devils

SPEAKE - K.C. Orr and Dez Polk did most of the damage in a seven-point win over Danville last week in the Speake Christmas Tournament.
The pair teamed up for 43 of Speake’s 52 points in a 52-45 victory over Danville in the round-robin tournament.
Orr had a game-high 22 points for the Bobcats, while Polk chipped in with 21 points.
Russell Standridge scored 12 points and Noah Barbee added 11 points to lead Danville.
The Hawks were without head coach Robert Pope, who was sidelined with an injury. Danville was coached by assistant Bruce Fitzgerald in the game.
Barbee also had seven rebounds.
Eric Cordova finished with nine points for the Hawks.
Randolph 56, Falkville 40
Jake Randolph scored 13 points for Falkville in a loss to Randolph.
Bren Marschner scored 24 points to pace the Raiders. Will Richardson added 10 points in the win.
Danville 36, Falkville 33
Danville edged Falkville with the help of a Dakota McClung 3-pointer at the end of the game.
Russell Standridge had 13 points and eight rebounds for Danville in the win, while Eric Cordova added six points and six rebounds.
Falkville’s Jake Randolph finished with 14 points, while Trevor Mayer added 10 points.
Girls’ games
Speake 56, Falkville 42
Speake scored 19 points in the fourth quarter to pull away from the Lady Blue Devils.
Kylie Black had 19 points and 21 rebounds to lead the Lady Cats, while Bridget Fulks finished with 13 points with 12 rebounds.
Cortney Jones added nine points.
Hilary Eason scored 12 points for Falkville. Celese Sharbutt added 11 points, with nine coming in the second half.
The Lady Blue Devils’ Katie Annerton added eight points in the loss.
Speake opened up a 17-9 lead in the first quarter, but Falkville managed to cut the gap to 37-35 heading into the final quarter of play.
Speake outscored Falkville 19-7 in the final eight minutes to extend the lead to 14 points at the end of the fourth quarter.
