Funeral for Horace Wooten Boom, 81, of Hartselle was Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Amelia B.Canon and Blake Tanner officiating.
Burial was in Hartselle City Cemetery.
Mr. Broom died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at his residence. He was born Aug. 14, 1927, in Etowah County to Marvin Horace Broom and Annis Carnes Broom. A resident of Hartselle since 1935, he was past president of Citizens Bank of Hartselle and past president of the Alabama Bankers Association.
Broom joined Citizens Bank as a full-time employee in 1950 after graduating from Auburn University with a degree in agriculture and banking. He became the bank’s president in 1969 and was serving as its chief executive officer when he retired in 1989.
He was a charter member of the Port Authority and played an active role in the development of the Mallard Fox Creek Industrial Park. He also was a past member of the Hartselle Board of Education, a past president of Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce, a director of the Hartselle Industrial Board and charter president of Hartselle Kiwanis Club.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hartselle and was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Joy Broom; and his beloved wife, Beth Howell Broom.
He is survived by two sons, J. Michael Broom and wife Lisa of Decatur and Jim Broom of McMinnville, Tenn.; a daughter, Sally Broom Corum and husband Kevin of Hartselle; and seven grandchildren, Sarah Broom Hubbell, Laura Broom, Alex Broom, Michael Broom, Matthew Broom, Anna Corum and Hunter Corum.
Pallbearers were Sarah Broom Hubbell, Laura Broom, Alex Broom, Michael Broom, Matthew Broom, Anna Corum and Hunter Corum.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army.
