Velma Ransom

A graveside service for Velma Murphy Ransom, 88, of Hartselle was Thursday, Jan. 8, at 3 p.m. at Somerville City Cemetery with the Rev. Pearl Jenkins officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Ransom died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at her residence. She was born Jan. 27, 1920, in Morgan County to Robert Murphy and Eliza Edmondson Murphy. She was a merchant in Priceville during the 1950s and 1960s and was a teacher in the Morgan County and Decatur City School systems for over 40 years. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Joe Jackson Ransom.
She is survived by a daughter, Leah Ransom Rogers and husband Joe of Hartselle.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of the Valley.
