Hartselle stops Priceville cold

DANVILLE - Taylor White gave Hartselle an early spark in the Lady Tigers’ matchup with Priceville in the opening round of the Morgan County Tournament Monday night with three 3-pointers in the opening quarter.
She added a pair of 3-pointers in the fourth quarter that closed the door on Priceville in a 62-50 victory.
The win was the second in three meetings for the Lady Tigers against Priceville this season. Hartselle blew out Priceville in the teams’ last meeting.
But Hartselle had to hold off a strong Priceville run that took the Lady Bulldogs from a seven-point deficit to a 46-43 lead.
Hartselle improved to 10-12 overall with a matchup with West Morgan looming. Priceville dropped to 15-10 with the loss.
White finished with 20 points in the win with six 3-pointers. Alex Holmes added 18 points and six rebounds for the Lady Tigers.
Priceville’s Melissa Johnson had 18 points and 13 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs. Keila Hamlin added 11 points.
The Lady Bulldogs used their size advantage to dominate the glass - finishing with a 36-22 rebounding advantage.
White’s early barrage of 3-pointers gave Hartselle a 19-5 lead in the opening quarter before Priceville closed to 39-30 at the half.
The Lady Bulldogs used a 16-4 run to claim their first lead of the game at 46-43 late in the third quarter.
But Hartselle went back in front with a 3-pointer from Chelsea Billings. White then hit two straight 3-pointers in the first 2:22 of the fourth quarter to put the Lady Tigers up 54-46, a lead Hartselle would not relinquish.
