Tigers past Devils

DANVILLE - Hartselle senior Rodney Stansberry made the most of his time on the court Tuesday in the Tigers’ 68-36 victory over Falkville in the opening round of the Morgan County Basketball Tournament at Danville High School.
Stansberry scored a game-high 24 points in just over 18 minutes of playing time to help lead Hartselle to an easy win over the Blue Devils. He hit 10 of his 13 shots from the field with three 3-pointers.
Hartselle improved to 14-10 overall and earned a spot in the semifinals Friday to face Brewer for the fourth time this season. The Tigers have won the last two meetings with the Patriots.
Hartselle dominated the game early, taking a 21-9 advantage after the first quarter. The Tigers stretched the lead to 41-19 at the half and went deep into the bench in the second half.
Stansberry scored 20 of his 24 points in the first half.
Only one Hartselle player logged more than 21 minutes on the floor.
Hartselle’s early lead was a result of some solid shooting in the first half when the Tigers hit 17 of their 29 shots from the floor.
Josh Slaten added nine points for Hartselle, while Tres Austin and Payton Sittason both added eight points.
Falkville’s Jake Randolph and Kyle Dickson scored nine points each for the Blue Devils. Both Randolph and Dickson finished with seven rebounds.
Trevor Mayer added eight points for the Blue Devils.
Falkville scored just 17 points in the second half.
