Nonresident students attending Hartselle schools will now pay more.
Hartselle School Board approved a revised policy on fees charged to nonresident students at a regular meeting conducted at Hartselle Junior High School Monday night.
The move was in keeping with an earlier decision to increase tuition fees for out-of-district student, effective at the beginning of next school year.
The new fee will be $400 per student with a maximum of $900 per family for the 2009-2010 school year. It will increase automatically to $500 per student with a maximum of $1,000 per family for the 2010-2011 school year.
Parents will be allowed to pay the fee in two payments, with one-half of the tuition to be due 10 days before the first day of the school year and the remaining balance due before the start of the second semester. Also, a 10 percent discount will be given if the tuition is paid in full before the start of the school year.
In other business, HJHS Principal Don Pouncey gave a positive report on student test scores, which are well above the state average in all subjects. He also thanked Superintendent Mike Reed and board members for their support of recent school improvements, including the replacement of the floor, repainting and installation of central air conditioning in the gymnasium, school grounds landscaping and ceiling mounts for LCD projectors in classrooms.
In observance of National School Board Week, board members were thanked for their support and hard work on behalf of the school system. Each member was presented a certificate of appreciation from Dr. Reed, a book on loan from the HJHS library and thank you cards from elementary school students and faculty members.
