Colors fire prompts criminal investigation

A Sunday night fire at Colors Precision Paint and Body at 513 Main Street in Hartselle has prompted investigations to determine if the building was torched in an attempt to cover up a robbery.
The investigation confirmed that a few items were missing from the shop, Barley said, “and more may turn up after an inventory is completed.”
Fire Chief Steve Shelton said a preliminary investigation raised the suspicion of arson and prompted his department to call in the police. An insurance company representative conducted an investigation at the same time.
Meanwhile the police department is seeking the public’s help in the matter.

Colors owner Phillip Gurley said his business would continue uninterrupted in spite of some fire and smoke damage at his Main Street shop.
A post office patron reported the fire to Hartselle firefighters at 9:16 p.m. and firefighters arrived on the scene two minutes later.
