Park and rec has busy spring planned

There’s plenty going on at Hartselle’s Park and Recreation Department this spring. Activities are planned for the whole family, including:
Aerobics: Classes meet on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8 to 9 a.m. Emily Wilbanks is the instructor. The fee is $25 per month or $5 per class. The first visit is free. Steps are provided. However, you will need to bring a mat for floor exercises.
Ultra Beginner Line Dance for Adults: Have a great time learning the basic moves in a friendly, encouraging atmosphere. Only ultra beginner and beginner dances will be taught. You will be able to go dancing after the very first class. Cheryl Kettler is the new instructor. Classes will begin Jan. 26 and will be on Monday nights, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., for 6 weeks. The fee is $30. No partner is necessary. Be sure to wear soft-soled shoes.
Hartselle Dixie Baseball: Registration will be Jan. 27, Feb. 3, Feb. 10, and Feb. 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the civic center. The fee is $65. The birthday cutoff date is April 30. Boys ages 5-14 are eligible to play. Bring a copy of the player’s birth certificate.
Hartselle T-ball: Boys and girls may both play in this league. It is open to four year olds only. The birthday cut-off is April 30. The fee is $35. The season will be six games. Registration dates are the same as Dixie Baseball. Bring a copy of the player’s birth certificate.
Hartselle Dixie Softball: Registration dates are Jan. 29, Feb. 5, and Feb. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Feb. 14 from 9 a.m. to noon at the civic center. The fee is $65 plus a mandatory $25 concession fee. The birthday cut-off is Jan. 1. The league is open to girls ages 5 - 18. Please bring a copy of the player’s birth certificate.
Valentine’s Dance: The dance will be 7 to 10 p.m. on February 6. Admission is $5 per person. It is open to ages 11-15. We will have professional photos taken by LH Dream Photography available for $3 each and a variety of gifts for that special someone priced at only $1. As always, we will have concession. There will be an election of Sweetheart King and Queen. The winners will be announced at 8:30 p.m. Parents, we still need chaperones. If we do not have at least 15 volunteers the dance will be cancelled. Call the civic center at 773-2581 to have your name added to the list.
Annual Charity Disc Golf Tournament: The Hartselle Disc Golf Association is hosting its annual tournament in Sparkman Park to benefit Terrell Industries. The tournament will be Feb. 14. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. For more information, visit www.discgolfbirmingham.com.
Gospel Concert: The Primitive Quartet will be in concert at the civic center on March 13. The doors will open at 5 p.m. and the concert will start at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 at the door. Advance tickets are available for $10 at local Christian bookstores and at Frost Accounting in Eva.
Leprechaun Extravaganza: Kids, ages 5-8 come celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with us. We will have St. Patrick’s Day games, crafts, and snacks at the baseball pavilion in Sparkman Park. Be sure to wear green. A prize will be given to the most creative St. Patrick’s Day ensemble. We will end the event with a four-leaf clover hunt in the park. The party will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 17. The fee is $5. Please pay and register at the civic center no later than March 11. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at the civic center.
Absolutely Incredible Kid’s Day: We have an incredible, fun filled day planned for kids ages 9-12 at the civic center. We are having an X-Box Rock Band Tournament, Velcro Wall Jump, eating contests and lots more. activities. The event is March 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The fee is $10 per person. Lunch will be served. Reserve your space soon because space is limited. The registration deadline is March 17.
