Renowned Hartselle writer William Bradford Huie has landed the city a spot in an upcoming literary event involving three states.
Hartselle is one of 18 stops along the Alabama Humanities Foundation’s Southern Literary Trail. The trail links communities, towns and landmarks commemorating great Southern writers. Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi are taking part in the event.
The tours will take place throughout the month of March.
Huie is included in a list of great Alabama writers such as Lillian Hellman, Eugene Walter, Truman Capote, Harper Lee, Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Events are planned in each of their hometowns.
In Hartselle, events will take place March 27-29 with the theme “William Bradford Huie: At Home in the Tennessee Valley.”
On March 27 at 7 p.m., “Mud on the Stars: Literary Circles Converge,” will take place at the Hartselle Fine Arts Center.
On March 28 at 10 a.m., the Fine Arts Center will host a discussion of Huie titled “I’m in the Truth Business.”
On March 28 at 2 p.m., Huie’s role in Hollywood will be discussed. At 7 p.m. that night, Wayne Flynt will present the “Alabama of William Bradford Huie.” Both events will take place at the Fine Arts Center.
Hartselle walking and driving tours will be taking place March 28-29.
