A random drug search at Hartselle High School earlier this week led to the discovery of drugs, alcohol and weapons. Three students were arrested.
Hartselle Police Department and the Morgan County Drug Task Force conducted a random drug sweep at HHS with the assistance of K9 units from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department and Trinity Police Department. Deputies found a small amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and alcohol.
Two juveniles were taken into custody, one for possession of marijuana in the second degree and possession of drug paraphernalia and the other for illegal possession of prohibited liquor.
Both juveniles were booked into the Hartselle City Jail and turned over to Juvenile Probation officials.
A third suspect, Benjamin Urban, 18, was also arrested. He was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to Hartselle City Jail on $1,000 bond.
Officers also located a shotgun inside one of the suspect’s vehicles and a sword inside another suspect’s car. Police said they do not believe the students had malicious intent in bringing the weapons onto the school grounds.
The students may face further charges from the police, as well as disciplinary action from the school in connection with the weapons.
