Tea to Paris – Burleson students don their finest to enjoy Valentine’s event

Kindergarten students at F.E Burleson Elementary School experienced formal dining in dress and etiquette at a “Tea to Paris” Valentine party on Feb. 12.
The “for kindergarteners only” annual event began with a dress-up session (boys in one room and girls in another).cccs Mostly, the dress was one of dad’s suit jackets and a white shirt and tie for the boys and one of mother’s’ after 5 party dresses complete with hat, gloves, jewelry and grownup makeup for the girls.
At 1 p.m. sharp, the partygoers assembled in the hallway and waited in line for a photo shoot, one boy and one girl at a time. Soon, expediency overruled formality as it became apparent that the photos were taking too much time and the tea had to go on. The students were then seated at tables, surrounded by a sea of red valentine cutouts and streamers and helium-filled red balloons. As they sipped on their tea and munched finger foods, parents armed with digital cameras moved in and competed for standing room only space in order to get a few shots of their children.
While most of the girls lavished the attention and flashed big smiles, the opposite was true for most of the boys. They sat slouched, stared at their food without eating, yawned and couldn’t wait for the party to be over.
