Calhoun receives scholarship grant
By Staff
Calhoun Community College has been awarded $586,354 from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for the Technology, Engineering, and Math Science (TEAMS) scholars program. The grant is focused on increasing the number of students majoring in pre-engineering, aerospace technology, chemical process technology, biology, biotechnology, chemistry, computer information systems, physics, and mathematics. The College will award at least 74 scholarships over the four-year academic period of fall 2009 through summer 2013 to students majoring in these disciplines.
The TEAMS scholarship program is directed at capable, but financially disadvantaged students with special emphasis on recruiting students from underrepresented groups such as female, minorities, or persons with disabilities.
To be eligible for one of the scholarships students must be United States citizens, be enrolled full-time in one of the degree programs mentioned above; must demonstrate academic potential or ability and demonstrate financial need as defined for undergraduate students by the U.S. Department of Education rules for need-based Federal financial aid.
