Siren testing takes place monthly

If you live in south Morgan County and hear a siren blasting away on a sunny day, don’t be alarmed. The chances are it’s a test.
Five of the sirens are located in the eastern part of the county (District 4), three in Hartselle, two each in Priceville and Eva and one each in Somerville and Falkville.
Hicks said all of the sirens are controlled from the EMA Office in the basement of the Morgan County Courthouse.
He said the purpose of the sirens is to alert citizens of any impending emergency situation, regardless of its origin. In the case of bad weather, the EMA responds only to calls made by the National Weather Service and may sound only the sirens located closest to the path of the weather front.
Hicks said there is an ongoing effort in his agency to obtain funding for additional sirens.
