Falkville extending sewer across interstate
By By Clif Knight, Hartselle Enquirer
Falkville soon will be able to offer prospective developers sewer service on the east side of I-65.
Sloan Utility Contractors of Hokes Bluff is currently making a 300-foot bore underneath the interstate as a necessary step to provide sewer service to the BP Service Station on Highway 55 along with other property owners. Other utilities such as natural gas, water and electricity are already available.
The project is being funded in large part by a $900,000 Community Development Block Grant the town received in 2008 from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs.
Walker said the entry point for the bore is on Buster Road, between Lawrimore Trailer Sales and Freedom Axle. Before the boring began, a 20-foot hole was opened. Using an 18-inch bit, workers were able to bore to about 50 feet before they ran into rock and had to opt for a larger bit. They had reached about 100 feet late last week.
Walker said boring should be completed in about two months.
T&K Construction of Vinemont is the general contractor and Goodwyn Mills and Cawood of Birmingham is the project engineer.
