Funeral for Travis Russell Solley, 68, of Hartselle was Thursday, March 5, at 6 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Gary Bradley and the Rev. Harold G. Hermetz officiating.
Burial followed on Friday, March 6, at Burningtree Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Solley died Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at his residence. He was born Feb. 16, 1941, to Doug and Clara Hopper Solley. He was a civil engineer who began his career with Rust Engineering. In 1971, he joined his brother as vice president and co-owner of Solley Construction, where he worked until he retired in December 2000 for health reasons. He enjoyed eight more years of life thanks to the guiding hands of his three physicians and the compassionate care of his caregivers. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Shelby Leigeber of Hartselle; a son, Bengie Solley, two daughters, Tammie Russell and Melodie Smith; three stepchildren, Cynthia Southers, Tara Holmes and Shane Austin; a brother, Ray Solley; two sisters, Doris Chapman and Joyce Johnson; eight grandchildren, Sawyer Solley, Skyler Solley, Saylor Solley, Dana Dietz, Darby Dockery, Mollie Russell, Savannah Russell and Jenna Russell; four stepgrandchildren, Dylan Southers, Trevor Southers, Grant Holmes and Addison Holmes; and two great-grandchildren, Ellis Dockery and Georgia Humphrey.
Pallbearers were grandsons Sawyer Solley, Skyler Solley and Saylor Solley and Dr. James Boyle, Bobby McCutcheon, Dallas Southers and Shawn Holmes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley or the Decatur General Respiratory Department.
