Alex Holmes will step on the volleyball court in July with the state’s best players during the 13th annual Alabama All-Star Sports Week in Huntsville.
Holmes, a standout from Hartselle, was named to the North team as an outside/middle hitter.
The North-South volleyball game will be played at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 16 at Spragins Hall on the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s campus.
Holmes recently completed her junior season where she helped lead the Lady Tigers to their third-straight appearance in the Elite Eight state tournament in Pelham.
Holmes was a mainstay of the Lady Tigers’ lineup, finishing with 300 kills and a team-high 107 blocks last fall.
Hartselle finished the season with a 50-19 record after losing to second-ranked Briarwood Christian in the Elite Eight tournament.
The Lady Tigers won the area regular season championship and won the area tournament. Hartselle finished second in the Morgan County Tournament.
Hartselle lost just three seniors from the 2008 roster and should again be favored to return to the Elite Eight tournament.
Sports Week features all-star games in soccer, baseball, girls and boys basketball, softball and football. Also, the week-long event features an equipment expo and special clinics for coaches and administrators.
The North volleyball team will be coached by Madison Academy’s Wendy Rucker and Jacksonville’s David Clark.
The rest of the North all-star roster includes setters Chelsea Wintzinger of Huntsville and Addison’s Kali Lake; outside/middle hitters Adele Woodall of Guntersville, Lisa Copeland of Grissom, Huntsville’s Anna McRae, Jacksonville’s Taylor Palmer, Carlisle Abele of Mountain Brook, Taylor Chapman from Lexington, Madison Academy’s Alex Stoltz and Ashley May of Muscle Shoals.
