Grant aids county shelter
By Staff
Gov. Bob Riley has awarded two grants totaling $253,401 to help a nonprofit organization continue serving domestic violence victims through its shelter in Morgan County.
Huntsville-based Crisis Services of North Alabama operates the satellite shelter to give victims in Morgan County access to free assistance closer to home.
Along with emergency shelter, the organization provides a 24-hour crisis line, counseling and referrals to other community resources for assistance with housing, employment and other needs.
Crisis Services also provides immediate assistance from medical experts and guides victims through the court system as offenders are charged and prosecuted.
