Funeral for Earnie R. Breeding, 69, of Canton, Ga., was March 4, 2009, at Canton First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ed Towers and Dr. C.R. Hill officiating and Sosebee Funeral Home of Canton directing.
Burial was in the Georgia National Cemetery with full military and fire honors. Among those serving with the military and participating in the service was his nephew, Master Sgt. Ken Breeding, currently stationed at Ft. Bragg.
Mr. Breeding died from esophageal cancer on Friday, February 27, 2009, at his residence. He was born August 8, 1939, in Morgan County to Melvin and Marie Breeding. The family later moved to Michigan. He graduated in the top of his class from Clinton High School in 1957. After earning a law degree he served in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Commander for the Navy Supply Corps for more than 26 years.
He was a member of Canton United Methodist Church where he served on the usher committee, finance committee and missions board. He was a member of the Pickens Co. DAV, Old Guard of the Gate City Guard, and Sons of the Confederacy. He served as Chaplain with the Sons of the American Revolution and Attorney General for the Sons of the Revolution. As a child he was a Boy Scout and as an adult served as a Scoutmaster, Silver Beaver and Order of the Arrow. He was a beloved and loyal American citizen. He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Breeding and a brother, Randall Breeding.
He is survived by his wife, Caroline Kay Jones Breeding of Canton, Ga.; two daughters, Jennifer Ross and husband Tom of Dahlonega, Ga. and Leah Breeding Kelly and husband Matt of Nelson, Ga.; his mother, Marie Breeding of Clinton, Mich.; a sister, Linda Lang and husband Bud of Rockwall, Tex.; two brothers, Ken Breeding and wife Cheryl of Tecumseh and Rick Breeding and wife Paula of Redford; four grandchildren, Shelby, Carter, Mitchell and Jesse; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Canton Latvian Mission Building Fund.
