Falkville completes sewer project

Residential sewer service has been upgraded and a bore has been made under I-65 in Falkville thanks to Community Development and EPA grants totaling $900,000.
Part of the money, which included a 20 percent local match, was used to replace, reline and make point repairs to sewer lines located east of the CSX railroad tracks, according to Mayor Jimmie Walker. The remainder funded a 24 inch bore under I-65 as a key step in extending service to the east side of the interstate.
Walker said the interstate bore provides space for a main sewer line as well as a second line, which could be used to accommodate additional infrastructure in the future.
The project was launched in May 2008 with T&K Construction of Vinemont as general contractor. Russ Roberts of Birmingham was project engineer.
