AHSAA shuts down prep schedule

The Alabama High School Athletic Association, reacting to the possibility of two swine flu infections in Madison, announced Wednesday that all state athletic events would be indefinitely postponed.
This includes the third round of the baseball playoffs, area softball tournaments and the state track meets in Troy and Gulf Shores.
Steve Savarese, Executive Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Association, said Wednesday night that all AHSAA athletic events would be shut down immediately due to probable cases of swine flu that have shut down three school systems in the Huntsville area.
Teams are allowed to practice during the postponement. The AHSAA is leaving that option available to all the schools in the state.
High school athletic activities were shut down in Texas earlier Thursday due to confirmed cases of the swine influenza (H1N1), a type A flu virus that is affecting the U.S.
