Hartselle's first trip to the state baseball finals since 2000 got off to a rough start with a 2-1 loss to Briarwood Christian Wednesday at Paterson Field.
Briarwood took advantage of two Hartselle errors to beat the second-ranked Tigers.
HHS' Luke Bole and Briarwood's Ben Bracewell dominated the game with stellar performances. Bole struck out seven and allowed just one infield single.
Both of Briarwood's runs were unearned.
HHS had just three hits of Bracewell and did't score its only run until the bottom of the seventh inning.
"We just could't overcome our errors" said Hartselle head coach William Booth.
The two teams meet today (Thursday) at 4 pm at Riverwalk Stadium in the best-of-three series.
