Funeral for Dr. Jerry Ray Burns, 70, of Decatur, was Monday, May 18, at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bros. Stephen Terry, Lynn Harvel and Nathan Green officiating.
Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Burns died Saturday, May 15, 2009, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born February 3, 1939, in Lauderdale County to Frank Burns and Lillie Mae Butler Burns. Dr. Burns was pastor of Rural Grove Baptist Church for 19 years. He retired from Copeland Corp. in Hartselle. He had a doctorate degree in ministry from Bethany Bible College in Dothan. He received a Degree of Theology, Bachelor’s Degree of Ministry, Master’s Degree of Ministry and a Doctor’s Degree of Ministry in June, 1994. He attended Calvary Baptist Church where he received his Certificate of Ordination in 1971. He graduated Magna Cum Laude. He attended Calvary Baptist Church where he was assistant pastor for 21 years. He was dedicated to his family, his Lord, church members and all of his friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
His is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Brown Burns of Decatur; two sons, Anthony Burns and Jeff Burns, both of Decatur; a daughter, Maria Sandlin of Decatur; a daughter-in-law, Lori Burns of Decatur; a sister, Ann Skipworth and husband Joe of Decatur; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Timmy Blackwood, Johnathan Newman, Calvin Burns, Terry Blackwood, Steven Harvel and Randy Long.
