School board grants tenure to 16 teachers

Hartselle School Board granted tenure to 16 teachers and made a number of other decisions affecting the city’s five schools and their personnel at its regular meeting on May 11.
Receiving tenured status after completing a minimum of three years of satisfactory service in the school system were the following: Angie Harris, Barkley Bridge Elementary School; Tina Towers, F.E. Burleson Elementary School; Jamie Haynes and Jessica Wimberley, Crestline Elementary School; June Barnes, Lisa King, Dana Sharp and Christy Williams, Hartselle Junior High School; Dennis Willingham, Hartselle High School; and John Hall, Central Office.
Five resignations were approved effective at the end of the 2009-2010 school year as follows: Maxine Hembree, reading coach at Barkley Bridge Elementary School; Sandra Hughes, music teacher at Crestline Elementary School; Ellen Hodgen, reading coach at F.E. Burleson Elementary School; Charles Yarbrough, eighth grade math teacher at Hartselle Junior High School; and Vetra Campbell, a teacher’s aide.
Summer personnel for the 21st Century Program at F.E. Burleson were approved as follows: Debbie Queen, director; Sandra Jones, Lisa Halbrooks and Sherry Harrison, site coordinators and instructors; Brooke Pettey, Kristy Wiley, Carl Powell, Yulanda Hampton, Katie Davis, Suzanne Mozley and Rose Stansberry, instructors; Brittany Woodall, college aide; and Nichole Ricketts, Elizabeth Hill and Brooke Motes, student aides.
Jerome Ward was approved to rejoin the faculty at Hartselle High School as a language arts teacher for the 2009-010 school year.
Supervision for all custodians was transferred from the city’s five schools to the Central Office. Effective in 2009-2010, they will be assigned to their various schools based on participation and need by Jerry Reeves, director of school operations and student services.
Margie Adams, a teacher at Crestline Elementary, was approved for a transfer from kindergarten to first grade for the 2009-2010 school year.
Changes in the subjects they will teach in the 2009-2010 school year were approved for Hartselle High School teachers as follows:
