Enquirer named one of state’s best weeklies

The Hartselle Enquirer was named one of the state’s best weekly newspapers, as well as earning the top public service award for its coverage of last year’s school tax referendum.
The awards were announced last week as part of the Alabama Press Association’s annual Better Newspaper Contest. The Enquirer competes against other large circulation weekly newspapers.
The Enquirer received the second place General Excellence award. The award is given to the top newspapers in the editorial and advertising competitions.
The Enquirer received first place in the Public Service category for its special section on last year’s school tax referendum. The section contained questions from the public with answers from city and school leaders.

The Enquirer also won overall second place honors in the advertising portion of the contest.

More than 44 newspapers submitted 900 entries in the advertising portion of the contest.
Seventy-six newspapers submitted 2,917 entries for the editorial contest.
