A graveside service for Lonnie Eugene Ikner, 78, of Hart-selle was Monday, June 15, at 11 a.m. at John-son Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Miller officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Ikner died Saturday, June 13, 2009, at his residence. He was born March 14, 1931, in Monroe County to Lonnie Lewis Ikner and Allie Axie Lisenba Ikner. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. He served in the Hartselle National Guard as a Private first class, Company C 1343rd Engineering Combat Battalion and was honorably discharged on January 22, 1953. He served in the Korean War and worked at Meadow Gold Dairies for 17 years. He owned and operated Ikner Refrigeration and retired from Kroger Company after 12 years of service as a refrigeration engineer covering all of North Alabama and parts of Tennessee. He was cared for by his family and Wiregrass Hospice of Cullman. He was loved very much and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by two sons, Jimmy Eugene Ikner and Timothy Eugene Ikner; three brothers, Lewis, Charles and Bobby Ikner; and two sisters, Carra Ikner Green and Harriett Green Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Freda James Ikner of Hartselle; four daughters, Nancy Ikner Chaney and husband Bobby of Priceville, Clarise Ikner Byers and husband Butch of Moulton, Brenda Ikner Hall and husband Preston Jr and Amy Ikner Hatfield, all of Hartselle; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Brandon Chaney, Nicholas Chaney, Cody Hatfield, Jeff Hatfield, Derek Parker and Jeff Harden.
