City struggles with debris cleanup

Most Hartselle residents are getting their lives back to normal after being inundated with storm debris, sustaining property losses and losing electric power for up to three days last week. But, unfortunately, the same can’t be said for Hartselle’s Public Works Department.
He said Public Works personnel worked all day Saturday and used every vehicle available to run streets and pick up tree limbs and other storm debris placed at curbside by residents.
The work has been assigned top priority until it is finished.
Tankersley said the load limit has been lifted on storm debris placed at curbside by residents. However, he reminded property owners that commercial contractors doing the work would be required to remove the debris at their expense. The Hartselle Landfill rate is $26 per ton.
Tankersley said a large amount of the yard waste taken in at the landfill would be chipped to conserve space.
