Enquirer sports editor earns awards
By Staff
Hartselle Enquirer Sports Editor Todd Thompson received both the top awards for weekly newspapers in the 38th annual Alabama Sports Writers Association convention held recently in Birmingham.
Thompson was winner of the best game story in the weekly newspaper division for his story on Hartselle Tigers’ win over Russellville during the 2008 football season.
Thompson also was co-winner of the best feature or column award for a story he did for the Enquirer’s partner publication, the Madison Record. The column was written about Madison Academy basketball player Bawa Muniru, a native of Ghana, Africa.
Judging for the contest was conducted by the Auburn University journalism instructors.
This was the first year for weekly papers to be included in the ASWA awards. There were only two categories for weekly papers.
