A graveside service for Nellie Gean Crauswell, 78, of Hartselle was Wednesday, June 24, at 11 a.m. at Hartselle Memory Gardens with the Rev. John Ramey officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Crauswell died Friday, June 19, 2009, at her residence. She was born January 11, 1931, in Cullman County to William Whitfield and Pearl Dean Whitfield. She had been a long-time attendee of First Church of God of Hartselle until failing health kept her from attending. She was the beloved wife of Mr. O.E. Crauswell for 60 years. She was a frequent giver to Meals on Wheels and helped others in the community. She and her husband enjoyed taking walks in the community holding hands together.
She is survived by her husband, Osbon Eugene Crauswell of Hartselle; two daughters, Deborah Crauswell Free and husband Wade and Becky Crauswell Chandler and husband Allen, all of Madison; a brother, Clark Whitfield and wife Elsie of Hanceville; a sister, Willie Lee Mitchell of Jefferson County; three grandchildren, Wendy Free Steele and husband Carl of Kelso, Tenn., Elizabeth Ann Moyers Taylor and husband Rick of Toney and Michael Bradford of Madison; and three great-grandchildren, Cody Waynn Steele, Adam Steele and Olivia Grace Taylor.
Pallbearers were Wade Free, Michael Bradford, Allen Chandler, Rick Taylor, Carl Steele and Harrell Collins.

Mr. Crauswell died Friday, June 19, 2009, at his residence. He was born February 1, 1931, in Cullman County to Mike O. Crauswell and Thenia M. Dean Crauswell. He had been a barber in Hartselle for 45 years. He had been a long time attendee of First Church of God of Hartselle until failing health kept him from attending. He was well known and loved by his community and friends. He and his wife were avid walkers always holding hands together. He was a very loving husband of Nellie Gean Crauswell for 60 years. He was preceded in death by his wife.
He is survived by two daughters, Deborah Crauswell Free and husband Wade and Becky Crauswell Chandler and husband Allen, all of Madison; a sister, Patricia Collins of Cullman Co.; three grandchildren, Wendy Free Steele and husband Carl of Kelso, Tenn., Elizabeth Ann Moyers Taylor and husband Rick of Toney and Michael Bradford of Madison; and three great-grandchildren, Cody Waynn Steele, Adam Lee Steele and Olivia Grace Taylor.
