The classrooms at Hartselle Fine Arts Center (old F.E. Burleson Elementary School) sprang alive with a burst of youthful energy last week as 75 children of elementary school age participated in the fourth annual Camp “Art”-selle.
Children entering first through fifth grades experienced the creativity and fun of painting, acting, dancing and singing for four days, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday. They learned a song and dance routine to the tune of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” practiced using facial expressions and body language to show emotions and even made and painted paper mache masks of their faces.
What they learned was spotlighted with a stage presentation for parents and friends on Thursday evening. A reception and tour of the Fine Arts Center followed.
The camp’s all-volunteer instructional staff included the following: Art—Michelle Wilson, Michael Ballew and Beth Balch; Dance—Casie Cheatham, Anna Kate Yeager and Brantley Wilson; Music—Debbie Queen and Stacey Alexander; and Drama—Jane Walker and Beth Shelton.
Other volunteers were Faye Walker, Jennifer Sittason, Melanie Wright, Jessica Halverson and Brooke Lawrence.
Rollins said campers also learned about the history of the old school.
