The Morgan County Commission approved spending $350,280 for lighting improvements to West Park in District 2 at its regular meeting recently..
The project will be financed across10 years with monthly payments of $2,919.
District 2 Commissioner Ken Livingston said a low lease bid from J.K. Johnson Mechanical Contractors was preferred over an outright purchase because it included a full 10-year warranty on equipment and workmanship. Whereas, a direct purchase would’ve offered only a conditional warranty.
Livingston said the upgrade was necessary because the park’s lighting system is obsolete and has experienced recent breakdowns and increased the cost of upkeep and maintenance.
The project calls for new wiring, control panels, brackets and light fixtures. Only the original poles are being salvaged.
