Old Somerville Courthouse opens

Four years after beginning work, the old Somerville Courthouse is open to the public once again.
Somerville’s Town Council and Celebration Committee held a grand re-opening June 20. Some 150 people, including Rep. Ronald Grantland, D-Hartselle, and Sen. Arthur Orr, R-Decatur, were on hand for the event. Both Grantland and Orr helped secure grant funds to help with the work.
Renovations include repairing broken bricks, foundation work and repairing windows.
The cupola was also reworked and a new roof was placed on the building.
New hardwood floors, paint job, appliances, countertops and bathrooms were added.
