Rain came in time to head off drought

The two to two and one-half inches of rain that fell throughout Morgan County on Sunday was the good drink of water farm and garden crops needed to survive an early summer heat wave, according to Mike Reeves, regional Extension agent (commercial horticulture).
We had a lot of crops that were hurting for lack of moisture,” he pointed out. “Early corn, for instance, is in the tasseling stage and needed water to reach peak production. Leafy garden plants such as squash, cucumbers and tomatoes had also begun to suffer.”
Reeves said reports he received placed the amount of rainfall at more than two inches, and it fell throughout the county.
