Funeral for William A. Brown, 79, of Battle Creek, Mich., was Saturday, July 4, at 1 p.m. at Johnson Chapel Methodist Church with Dr. Milan Dekich officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Johnson Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Brown died Tuesday, June 30, 2009. He was born April 30, 1930, in Danville to Walter and Mary McDaniel “Staggs” Brown. He married Viola McLemore on October 24, 1946, in Decatur. He served our country in the mid- 1950’s and was a member of the American Legion in Battle Creek. He first worked for City Window in Kalamazoo, had his own fishing charter out of Manistee, Mich., and owned Brown’s Concrete in Battle Creek and Kalamazoo before retiring in 1995 after 40 years of service. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Diane Brown; and a great-grandson, Chase.
He is survived by his wife, Viola Brown of Battle Creek, Mich.; five daughters, Gail Greenway and husband Randy, Brenda Konkle and husband Don and Tammy Garber and husband Tony, all of Battle Creek, Tina King and husband Marvin of Decatur and Tonya Cole and husband Daniel of Moulton; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Randy Greenway, Donald Konkle, Tony Garber, Marvin King Sr., Daniel Cole, Robbie Fortner, Marvin King Jr. and Andrew Garber.
