Energy changes save big bucks

An energy conservation plan saved Hartselle Schools some $940,000 in the last six years, board members learned last week.
“When we started with Energy Education six years ago we were told we could expect to save $700,000 on energy costs in seven years,” Hank Quattlebaum, maintenance superintendent, said. “As you can see, we’ve been able to exceed their projection. The credit belongs to all of the employees of the school system. They’re the ones who made it happen.”
Quattlebaum said the figure represents real savings.
In other news, Superintendent Dr. Mike Reed recognized members of the Hartselle High School varsity girl’s golf team and boy’s baseball team as state champions. Each coach and player received a certificate of commendation to commemorate their achievements.
Board member Bruyne Rollins was also recognized for successfully completing Phase
Two of a continuing education program sponsored by the Association of Alabama School Boards.
