Funeral for Monroe Childers Jr., 85, of Eva was Wednesday, July 29, at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Ronald Earwood and Ronnie Ryan officiating.
Burial was in Eva Cemetery. Mr. Childers died Monday, July 27, 2009, at his residence He was born Feb. 27, 1924, in Morgan County to William Monroe Childers and Mamie Stansel Childers. He was retired from Fruehauf in Decatur and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Etheridge Childers, Donald Childers, Jimmy Childers and Gene Autry Childers; and a sister, Peggy Robbins.
He is survived by his wife, Robbie Lou Childers of Eva; a son, Mickey Childers and wife Judy of Florette; two daughters, Vonda Norris and husband Gerald of Eva and Nelda Coker and husband Johnny of Joppa;. a sister, Nell Williams of Tennessee; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Grandsons were pallbearers.
