Funeral for Elbert Oneal Green, 86, of Decatur was Friday, July 31, at 2 p.m. at First Freewill Baptist Church with the Revs. Arnold Bracken and Tim York officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in New Center Cemetery in Brooksville.
Mr. Green died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born February 25, 1923, in Lawrence County to Onnie Green and Lela Terry Green. He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church and a Navy veteran who served in Okinawa in WWII. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and was an honest and loyal friend to the many who loved him. He owned and operated his own store on Highway 20 for 25 years. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Elbert Green; a brother, Clifton Green, a sister, Lassie Odell; a grandson, Michael McClung; and a great-grandson, Tyler Williams.
He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Stringer Green of Decatur; a daughter, Virginia McClung of Decatur; a stepson, Gary Stringer of Hartselle; a step-daughter, Shirley Parker of Decatur; a sister, Jewel Kuzmik of Youngstown, Ohio; two grandsons, Keith McClung and Dave McClung, both of Decatur; a granddaughter, Bridget Williams of Decatur; a step-grandson, Chris Schrimsher of Birmingham; a step-granddaughter, April Williams of Madison; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
Pallbearers were Lamar Gerstman, Jason Gerstman, Wesley Stewart, Ron McCraney, Dwight Higdon, John Berry and James Odell.
