Funeral for Essie West, 88, of Somerville was Friday, July 31, at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Buddie R. Brown and Vandon Windsor officiating.
Burial was in New Friendship Cemetery in Somerville.
Mrs. West died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at Falkville Health Care Center. She was born January 16, 1921, to Robert McMillan and Hannah Perry McMillan. She was a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Roy West; two sons, Bobby Joe Hatfield and Frederick Hatfield; her parents; and a brother, Robert McMillan.
She is survived by six sons, Marvin West Jr., Jerry West, Jimmy West, Avery West, Robert Hatfield, all of Somerville and Raymond Hatfield of Decatur; three daughters, Nancy Kent and Catherine Smith, both of Somerville and Evelyn Patterson of Decatur; a sister, Vernie McMillan; 37 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
