Board funds teacher supplies

Funding cutbacks is prompting the Hartselle School Board to dig deeper into its coffers to cover the cost of supplies.
The board voted to appropriate $22,500 from the general fund for teacher supplies during the first semester and $50,000 to cover copying machine costs, excluding paper.
Certified employees throughout the school system will receive $100 each from the supplies money. In addition, the board agreed to consider appropriating an additional $22,500 for supplies in the second semester in the event funds are available.
Superintendent Dr. Mike Reed told the board he was making the recommendation as a result of state proration.
