Funeral for James Hillard Hopkins, 86, of Falkville was Monday, August 17, at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Greg Compton officiating.
Burial was in Herring Cemetery in Hartselle.
Mr. Hopkins died Saturday, August 15, 2009, at his residence. He was born April 7, 1923, in Winston County to Elbert Quinton Hopkins and Carrie Mae Radford Hopkins. He was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II. He served in the U. S. Navy aboard a minesweeper. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Gladys Garrison Hopkins; a son, Allen Niles Hopkins; and a brother, Ralph Hopkins.
He is survived by a daughter, Charlotte Hopkins Beavers and husband Ron of Falkville; two brothers, James Hopkins of Montgomery and Edwin Hopkins of Nauvoo; five sisters, Sybleen Boyles Terry of Moulton, Mavis Emberg of Nauvoo; Hilda Jackson of Carbon Hill, Cynthia Keeton and Cathy Atkins, both of Jasper; two grandchildren, Bethany Beavers Smitherman and husband Jarrod of Cullman and Emily Beavers Bryan and husband Joshua of Eva.
Pallbearers were Donnie Hopkins, Terrell Boyles, Stuart Nesmith, Tim Laney, Russell Reeder and Gregg Holladay.
