A request for a one-time appropriation of $40,000 to help Somerville pay off a $75,000 loan for renovations to the old courthouse fell on deaf ears at a recent final budget review meeting of the Morgan County Commiss-ion.
In his letter, Long said repairs to the old courthouse had to be made in order to preserve it as an important piece of the county’s early history.
The commissioners also rejected a request from E-911 for a three-year budget appropriation agreement, seeking $180,000. The current annual appropriation is $67,000.
They agreed that a meeting with the E- 911 board of directors was needed prior to considering any changes in the agreement the county currently has with E-911.
Another subject discussed was officiating costs at the county’s four pubic ball parks.
District I Commissioner Jeff Clark said if the county continues to pay game officials as it has in the past the amount of money appropriated to Parks &Recreation in the proposed budget will come up $40,000 short.
