A Hartselle woman has landed in hot water after police said she bit an employee who tried to detain her after she allegedly fled with store merchandise.
Zelma Genell Hughes, 26, of 206 Bethel Road, was charged with robbery in the third degree and resisting arrest following an Aug. 12 incident at Wal-Mart.
According to Hartselle Police, Hughes was attempting to leave the store with merchandise in her purse when she was confronted by an employee.
Hughes went back into the store but then police said she attempted to flee. Wal-Mart employees chased her for a short distance and later detained her while waiting for police.
While they were attempting to hold her, Hughes allegedly fought with store employees and one worker was injured when Hughes allegedly bit his arm.
Police said Hughes later resisted their attempts to arrest her. Hughes’ bond was set at $3,500.
